Abstract

Purpose: This study is to understand how the elderly act to maintain their life of bliss(i.e. ‘Bok’) based on their experience.
Method: This study was analyzed by Colaizzi’s phenomenological method(1978) with 7 elderly participants who are over the age of 70.
Results: The essential meanings of life of bliss in elderly ware as following; Life of having a companion to talk with about inner mind, Life of having well-grown children, Life of living together to an old age, Life of having contentment without greed, Life of being recognized, Active and merry life, and Economically-stabilized life. The conditions for the meaning ware as following; Living a life having priority over children, Pray for bliss, To be faithful to current life, Concerning for others, Making an effort for keeping health, Preparing for own death.
Conclusion: According to these result, a heath carer who takes care of elderly should understand that they need to show enormous amount of effort and attitude to keep their bliss of life. The result of this study would provide a direction of nursing intervention of the elderly and the fundamental data in the elderly health promotion program. Also, it is regarded that this research would contribute to the elderly nursing theory development which is adjust to Korean traditional culture throughout expanding the knowledge system of the elderly nursing in Korea in the future.
